Butterfly Gardens
Butterflies can be very enjoyable to watch with their brilliant assortment of colors and their carefree movements. A butterfly is an added part of any landscape; their presence brings that special something to any garden.
When planning to add a butterfly garden feature to your yard, location is important. A good rule is to have the garden n a good visual location from where you plan to entertain. If it is set to far away from where you spend your time you will not be able to enjoy the butterflies.
Plant choice is also very important, without the right plants butterflies have no reason to hang around. You'll want flowers that produce nectar that butterflies love to eat. Group plants of the same variety together so it will be easier for the butterflies to locate. Of course there are different species of butterflies with different nectar preferences. Aster, Black-eyed Susan, Butterfly weed, Coreopsis, Daylilies, Hibiscus, Lavender, Marigold, Lilac, Purple Coneflower, Redbud, Verbena, Rosemary, Oxeye Daisies, and of course the Butterfly bush are good choices for a butterfly garden. It is good to use flowers that have different flowering times to increase the chances of the butterflies coming back spring, summer, and early fall.
